Biopsy
A biopsy is an examination method in which tissues are surgically extracted from the patient’s body
for examination. A probe and the biopsy kit are used together when conducting a biopsy with the
ultrasonographic image scanner.
The ultrasonographic image scanner shows the needle penetrating the surface of the skin and the veins
along with the examination location in real-time, minimizing the risk to the patient.
Biopsy Kit Components
The biopsy kit consists of an adapter, needle guide and needle. The components may vary depending on
the probe type. These components and accessories can be purchased from Samsung Medison.

X Adapter: Secures the needle guide tightly to the probe.
X Needle Guide: Guides the angle (direction) of the needle so that it can reach the examination
location accurately. It also helps to secure the needle.
X Needle: A needle that is inserted into the patient’s body.
X Sheath: Prevents the probe and adapter from becoming contaminated by any unwanted substances
during examination (blood and other body uids).
X Ultrasound Gel: The space between the probe and the sheath is lled with ultrasound gel to obtain
the best quality images.
