Tips!

Important Information for Doppler Spectrum Auto Trace

Measurement results are greatly affected by the Doppler spectrum condition. Please note the

following:

Causes for Trace Failure

X

If Gain is changed for a Doppler image in the Freeze state, Contour Trace and Peak Trace will not

work.

X

If there is little or no noise in an image without a spectrum, Contour Trace will not work.

X

If there is severe noise in the image, Contour Trace will not work.

X

If the Clutter filter is set too high, Auto Trace or Limited Trace may not work.

Causes for Inaccurate Peak Trace

X

If PRF (Pulse Repetition Frequency) is lower than the velocity of the observation area, aliasing

may occur. If the original signals are separated from aliasing, Trace can be done but the peak

measurement may not be accurate.

X

If the peak of a spectral waveform is not clear or occurs intermittently, Trace can be done but the

peak measurement may not be accurate.

X

If the Doppler Gain is set to too high or too low, it becomes difficult to distinguish spectrums.

This may result in measurement error(s).

X

If the Wall Filter is set too high, only part of the spectrum is displayed. In this case, Trace can be

done but Peak measurement may not be accurate.

X

If abnormal noise or artifacts occur, Trace can be done but Peak measurement may not be

accurate.

Misc.

X

Only Limited Trace is available for two-peak spectrums such as Mitral Valve Inflow and Tricuspid

Valve Inflow in the cardiology application.

Limited Trace

This method automatically traces the spectrum within the measurement area when the

measurement area is set. This becomes enabled in the menu when in Spectral Doppler Mode.

1. Select Limited Trace in the measurement menu. A bar appears allowing you to specify a

measurement area.

2. Specify the measurement area.

X Place the bar at a desired position with the trackball, and press the Set button.
