Ultrasound Velocity
X The velocity of ultrasound used for measurement is usually 1,540 m/s, on average.
X The velocity of ultrasound may vary depending on the cell type.
X The error range is about 2 to 5% depending on the cell structure. (About 2% for normal cells and
about 5% for fatty cells.)
Adjusting Doppler Signals
X During velocity measurement, there may be a slight error in the cosine angle between the blood
ow and the ultrasound beam.
X For Doppler velocity measurements, the most accurate results can be ensured when the
ultrasound beam is aligned in parallel with the blood ow.
X If this is not possible, the angle between them should be adjusted by using the Angle option.
Aliasing
X PW Spectral Doppler Mode uses a signal sampling technique to calculate the frequency (or
velocity) spectrum.
X Adjust the baseline or the velocity scale to minimize aliasing. You can reduce aliasing by using a
lower frequency probe as well.
Calculation Formulae
X Some of the calculation formulae used for clinical purposes are based on hypotheses and
approximation.
X All calculation formulae are derived from medical reports and articles.
Human Error
X Human error may occur due to inappropriate use or lack of experience.
X This can be minimized through compliance with and thorough understanding of the manuals.
